Death by Audio Kill Kill Filter

The Kill Kill Filter is a dual filter pedal with a semi-truck of attitude! 2 identicle eq's can be switched back and forth on the fly for an endless seeming changing sounds as you play. Create a new lead sound and then another! Blast in a solo! Chunk out on a heavy riff! You call the shots! It's mean and evil and sounds absolutely amazing after a fuzz pedal creating some of the most seething intense tones ever heard!!!

You'll notice the wiring for the main stomp is slightly modified with connections for the LED switching shown in the layout.  You can use the rest of the usual offboard wiring diagram for the audio switching and so lugs 4 to 9 remain as normal.   So the main switch will bypass the effect completely and the Filter switch will select which filter is in circuit and which LED is illuminated.

Not my cup of tea but I'm sure you glitchy filter noise fuzz thing lovers will dig it,

  1. Hi Mark,
Great layout! I've uploaded one in the forum this afternoon but I've inverted the volume pot.

    1. Yes just seen it, nice job matey. Ha I'd forgotten about the DBA weird pot wiring by the time I got to the volume pot. Sod it, I'll leave it now :o)

    1. Sorry Mark but I'm lost. Shouldn't Vol 3 fo to ground?

    2. No DBA just swap the 2 and 3 lugs which has the same effect as the way we normally wire them. If volume 3 goes to ground it will be silent in the full clockwise position. Just remember when fully cw lug 2 goes to 3, when fully ccw 2 goes to 1.

  3. Not sure I need or want it but I am going to build it.

  4. Hi! Nice,this is on my build-list!
    question: I'm currently building
    demeter's fuzzulator-the switch is it
    on/on or on/off?
    Thanks for a great site!!

  5. Ok fellas I'd say this is VERIFIED. It is nothing great on its own but can sound neat when mixed with fuzz. I think that the volume pot value could be cut in half to 50k maybe even 25k. As I play I'll add anything else.
The only thing I didn't get was where the cathodes of the LEDs connect. I am currently lightless.

    1. Excellent nice one matey. The diagram is actually wrong, it's the cathodes of the LEDs which connect to the filter switch, the anode then both connect directly to the supply. I'll alter the layout.

    2. Ok. I'll switch that up tomorrow. I took the cathodes to ground.
      Thank you.

  6. Hi! Does anyone have the schematic for this? I'm trying to work out if it's two independent filters or, if it switches two settings on the same filter. Basically, I want to make a version where I can send the two filters to two amps separately. Thanks.

  8. Ugh... STILL trying to get this one working. It's been a great learning experience, though! Currently, I'm passing sound when bypassed. Both LEDs are working. When engaged, I'm getting no sound. I've redrawn the wiring on paper again, so I'm hoping the problem is with wiring. I'll fire up the soldering iron and go back in this weekend. (crosses fingers)

  10. Hi
    Late to the party here.
Did anyone successfully build this unit?
I thought I may be about making it my first DIY pedal (with some help from a friend).
I like that borderline low gain fuzz tone. Most fuzz pedals just mimic old boring stuff IMO.
But it would be interesting with a an alteration with fuzz one one side. It seems it’s a mirror of one tone.

    Any feedback is welcome.

  12. I had best results with linear pots for both filters as logs bunched everything up at the end on my build. Also managed to fit everything into a 1590b with top mount jacks and dc. Thanks for posting this!

  13. Hey I’m hoping to fix my Kill Kill Filter and was wondering if this sounds like a likely fix. So awhile back I had some issue with a small spark happening at the wall plug in and the pedal hasn’t worked since so I thought I’d ruined it and just put it in the closet. Anyway just decided to open it up to see if I could see signs of anything but the only thing I think I notice is that possibly a joint where I think a wire is supposed to be grounded to a pot isn’t. Does that sound like maybe it just shorted out there and that would be the only thing needed possibly?
